Give the biggest secret to the most outgoing guest

They'll lean into it. Quiet guests get quieter secrets — the mystery still works because the extrovert stirs the pot.

Let accusations fly in round two

Wrong guesses drive the fun. Don't correct anyone until the reveal.

Serve finger food, not a sit-down dinner

Eight people moving around to interrogate each other beats eight people glued to a chair.

Prep the reveal as theatre

What's the ideal game length for 8 players?

90 minutes. That's long enough for two investigation rounds and a proper reveal, short enough that nobody's checking their phone.

Can I have uneven genders?

Yes. All characters are gender-neutral by default unless you pick a theme that specifies. Nobody has to play against their gender.

What if someone drops out last-minute?

If the game hasn't started, regenerate the mystery for 7 players or swap the character. If a player drops mid-game, the GM can release their secrets to the group so the mystery still lands.

Does 8 players work for a dinner party?

It's the sweet spot. Everyone gets a meaningful role and screen time, and the accusations phase stays dynamic without getting chaotic.

Can I play with 7 or 9 instead?

Yes. Most mysteries work for a range — you can often flex up or down by one player. Or generate a custom AI mystery for the exact count.
